A Villa Smart-Home Plan: From Cabling to Scenes
Cabling, protocol choice and phased installation: a short roadmap to avoid mistakes in a villa.
In large spaces like villas, planning starts before choosing products. Write your life scenes first: arrival, night, leaving home, guests. Products are then chosen to deliver those scenes.
In a new build, cabling is the cheapest smart-home investment. Run a neutral wire to key switch points, prepare power points for curtains and blinds, and leave a central panel and network infrastructure.
Don’t depend on a single method for protocols: Zigbee for sensors and switches, and wired IP for bandwidth-heavy needs (intercom, cameras). A local gateway unites them all.
Install in phases: lighting and curtains first, then security and climate, intercom and video last. Test at every stage that the system also works without the internet.
